About Stage One
In 1980 Solent
Theatre Company formed a junior group, this was the Solent Theatre
Company Stage One. With the successful shows by the adult and
youth company, the two groups became successful and popular
with audiences. Sadly the group disbanded and Stage One became
self-sufficient and became simply known as "Stage One".
Since
then the company has flourished and has performed a variety
of famous musicals including; 'Oliver!', 'West Side Story',
'Anything Goes', 'Les Miserables' and most recently ''Footloose'.
The group is an
amateur one and is affiliated with the National Operatic and
Dramatic Association or NODA. Stage One's object is to develop
youth members in the art or music, drama and dance.
Joining Stage One
After
each show, at the discretion of the comittee, prospective new
members (currently aged 12 -18) are invited to attend an introduction
meeting regarding joining Stage One. In the following weeks
one evening will be given over to auditions to join Stage One.
The audition will require you to sing or dance to a piece of
your own choice.
We
meet weekly on Fridays in the Drama Studio of Mayfield School
in Mayfield Road, Portsmouth. There is a weekly charge that
covers scripts, CD's, costumes and production fee.
We perform at Ferneham Hall, Fareham during school half-term
week three times in a two year cycle.
