REVIEW: Footloose, Stage One,
Ferneham Hall, Fareham
Tuesday 1st November 2011
By Karen Robson
In the small town of Bomont dancing has become outlawed, a state
of affairs big city transplant Ren McCormack sets out to overturn.
Chris Hutton brought a looselimbed charm and a
glimmer of the character’s vulnerability to the role of
the can’t keep still Ren.
Ellie Jones has good stage presence and used her beautiful big
singing voice to great effect as the rebellious preacher’s
daughter Ariel. There was sterling support, in particular from
Matt Fisher (Willard) and Connie Powell (Rusty) who made an
entertaining and engaging duo.
Matt Jarvis (Reverend Moore) and Gilly Williams (Mrs Moore)
brought gravitas to their roles and were extremely touching
in their reconciliation scenes.
Although pacing was sometimes impeded by constant scene changes,
the production had flair and built up to an exhilarating climax.
The set was impressive and the use of lighting well done. This
was a lively, enjoyable experience.

Letter, emails to Stage One
You did it again! Such exuberant
enthusiasm harnessed to give a really exciting show. Everyone
gave 110%.
Jenny, Jean, Sheila and Rosemary thoughly enjoyed it. Fascinated
by the 'crafty' scene shifting - bits sliding in and out, the
dancing - dare we say especially the atheltic lads - and colour.
The "adults" so well made up - no harsh lines - and
the unrestrained singing. You certainly catered for every age.

Well done to you all for last
night's performance! I really enjoyed the whole production,
and to have a sell out - wow, excellent! There were some brilliant
characters, but a special mention has to go to Ariel and Vi
- excellent performances. And also - Reverend - look after that
wonderful voice of yours - what a beautiful tone! Thanks everybody
for a good night out. Rosie Duffin on Facebook.
